LOTR Rules In Oscar!!!
02.29.04 (11:41 pm)   [edit]
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] You got that right babeh!!! LOTR swept all 11 categories it was nominated in, including Best Picture, Best Visual Effects, Best Director etc etc. Way to go, Peter Jackson!!!

In another note, Charlize Theron won Best Actress for her potrayal as a psychotic mudering-prostitute, while Sean Penn won Best Actor for his character in Mystic River. More Oscar winners here.

Cramp Monday...
02.29.04 (7:41 pm)   [edit]
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] Got cramps in my tummy. So my mood ain't too good today. Hopefully the cramps will cease later today. Was supposed to go to the telco and continue uploading stuff, but I told the AE that I won't be going cos of the cramps. Anyway, he can do the job just as well as me since 4 of us attended the training (but I'm the only one doing the job). And what do you know... since I'm not doing the uploads, no one else will. So it all comes down to me again... Makes you wonder what the fuck are the system administrators in the telco doing. Hire them just to goyang kaki? Such is life working with oxygen wasting swines. And don't think I'll get a good pay rise or anything in appreciation. We don't get such stuff working here. Which is why I'm looking for ways to get out of this hell hole...

Uuuuhhhhh~~~ the cramps are back again... *holding my tummy*

Jigsaw Puzzle Weekend
02.27.04 (8:07 pm)   [edit]
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] On Thursday night, after dinner, I suddenly had the idea of going to SS 2 Cheow Yang *pasar malam. Since I had to pick my sister up from tuition later at night and it's near Cheow Yang, might as well kill time lah. So my bf & I headed out to the pasar malam and see if we could get some fruits.

We bought some Fuji apples, which were quite sweet (got free sample to try mar). The pasar malam was crowded as usual, and the VCDs sellers are back in full force. We were just browsing through some VCDs & DVDs when we heard someone shout *"JAU-GUAI-AAHHHHH". Within that split second, the VCDs peddlers were stacking their lot and running to their nearby cars & vans. How efficient

We also bought this super-duperly adorable puppy jigsaw puzzle. Okok, I'm getting all mushy here now. But the puppy was so damn cute!!! I couldn't resist looking at his cute-cute innocent looking sweet face. Even my bf feel in love with the puppy. So we bought the 1000 pcs puzzle for RM 9 (bloody cheap) and a frame to go with it (RM 18). Of course the quality of the puzzle is only so-so lah, waddaya expect. It's rather thin, cannot compare with the good ones you can buy from Jigsaw Puzzle World. Puzzles from JPW can cost a bomb, and that's only their puzzles alone. Buy the frame and it's another bomb. They do have good stuff, but they don't have THIS puppy!!!

So I'm gonna have a jigsaw puzzle weekend this week. 1000pcs starting today. It'll be fun, but must remind myself NOT to look at the solution! This puzzle we bought came with a small piece of paper indicating how to solve the puzzle. Each piece of puzzle has a number, just attach the same numbers to gether and wa-la!!! But that will take the fun out of the puzzle, so I kept the paper in a drawer.

*pasar malam - night market

*"JAU-GUAI-AAHHHHH" - a cantonese terms, which loosely translated means RUN-GHOST. It is a term made famous among illegal hawkers & VCD peddlers which actually means that there are officers coming for a raid & it's time for them to pack & run!

At Client's Place :þ
02.26.04 (10:24 pm)   [edit]
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] Currently blogging at client's place *giggles* Actually I'm waiting for another AE to come over and hand me some files to be uploaded into the server. I've been here since 10am++ uploading several MBs of files files and more files. Another AE was with me the whole morning - John. I guess I'll be here until about 3pm++. After that I have to catch a cab back to the office cos both the AEs will have a meeting until 5pm++ (no sense in waiting).

Man... you'll think that a large telco like this will have superbly fast internet connection. Oh yea, they're running on broadband, but seems kinda slow... I gotta remember to clear the cache and Temporary Internet folders before leaving... clean my trail *LOL*

I'll probably have to come back here again next week to complete uploading more files. Hate it when they do work like this... give bit by bit. Feel like a rat running around the mouse trail going nowhere. You want us to get things done for you, but you don't provide the relevant information. Pigs...

*ah-choo* *ah-choo*
02.26.04 (12:17 am)   [edit]
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] The weather in KL/PJ has been weird. Really hot during the day, gloomy in the evening. Sometimes a heavy downpour & strong wind will hit the city. Sometimes it's gloomy throughout the whole day. What gives...? Speaking of which... *ah-choo* *ah-choo* *ah-choo* Think I may have caught a slight cold... My nose has been feeling rather weird today...

I'm Playing The Invisible Game
02.25.04 (12:32 am)   [edit]
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] I know I haven't been blogging lately. Watudoo... have to constantly go to a certain telco company to upload several hundred files into their internal server. And I'm the only 1 so damn lucky enough to get the job *sarcasm sarcasm* Which means every morning I punch my card, grab the files and head to the pig sty and start uploading... And continue to do so for several hours. They can do it themselves, but being the lazy bunch they're notoriously known for... I have to do the work. At first we suggested that we install the programme into our laptop. That way, we can upload the files in the office instead (since all copywriting & editing is done in the office), and reduce travelling time. After we're done, just backup the data into a CD or hard disc and transfer it over to their server lor. They say tak boleh, cos of license problem lah, this lar, that lar. So that means I have to constantly go to their office and do the uploads. And since I don't have a car, the AE has to fetch me there & back (he can claim wat).

So... I'll be away for a while. At least until this project is done, which should be completed by the end of this week.

Today...
02.23.04 (6:41 pm)   [edit]
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] I'll be at the pig sty today. Will most probably be spending time at the pig sty for this whole week. Them pigs need to be culled... Will update my culling experience later.

Am Glad The Weekend Is Here...
02.19.04 (10:51 pm)   [edit]
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] Phew! Past couple of days has been rather busy... It's either I'm uploading stuff at client's place or going for presentations or I'm continuing my R&D for a pitch. Ah well... a job... I'm just hoping for a better increment for this year... Show me the money!!! *keeping fingers crossed* Actually, my friend sent me this pdf file which shows the market rate for for certain fields. And according to that file, I'M UNDERPAID!!!! WooWaaWooWaa...

Am glad the weekend is finally here. No doubt I still have to come to work on Saturday (1/2 day) *groan*, watudoo... Sunday I have a wedding lunch to attend. And Monday is a public holiday *hurray!!!*

While I was at client's place this morning, I got a call from a purchaser of Kelana Mahkota. He asked if I would be interested in the idea of forming a resident Association (RA). Well, of course each condo project should have their own RA to lookout for the tenant's welfare. He also asked if I knew any other purchaser contacts, so I gave him my friend's contact. Other than that, it's been a quiet day...

Hamsters
02.18.04 (5:56 pm)   [edit]
=http://img21.photobucket.com/... =http://img21.photobucket.com/...

Yes, I like hamsters. The dancing hamu on the left is called The Hamster Dance. The hamu on the right is my current MSN picture  I find hamus very cute & funny little creatures. I currently have 3 hamus at home (one died last weekend - RIP Big Momma). I will try to get some pictures of my existing hammies up. I previously took some using a borrowed digital camera, but I've yet to transfer it to my PC. The pictures were taken using I Berhad's digicam - think it was only 2 mega-pixels. Wasn't mine anyway, have yet to get a digicam for myself.

I also have Arakun, my pet raccoon of course. But I have yet to take any pictures of him due to the fact he can't sit still for 1 minute. And he has a tendency to chomp down he camera lens whenever I try taking pictures of him  Maybe he has a liking for plastic...? Maybe he feels he's not photogenic enough, so he won't allow himself to be taken. Hehehehe...

Of Thongs, G-Strings & Panty Lines
02.17.04 (12:20 am)   [edit]
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] I know, I know... I'm blogging a lot of crap today. Siao oredi maaarrrr.... Actually, it's an exucse to look busy in front of the PC, since I'm too damn lazy to do my goddamn work. Anyway, I wanted to blog about women and their sense of dressing - in this case, panty lines.

Now we all know that a nice looking butt is essential in any women. If you're wearing a tight fitting pants/skirt, it's always advisable to wear a thong or G-string, that way, your panty line won't show and expose to everyone that you're actually wearing underpants. Imagine you're walking around a mall, minding your own business, when you suddenly caught sight of a nice looking butt in tight pants. And if you look closer, you see panty lines showing as the gal is walking, swaying her hips. A bit "potong steam" if you ask me. Visible panty lines are a fashion no-no.

Now I have encounters of visible panty lines all the time in the office. Some of the marketing people here really don't know how to dress right. There's one particular AE (Accounts Exec), one she wore a bright pink A-line skirt, the kind that flows with the wind. Her panty line was SO visible, I could see the laces on it! Another time, she wore a tight white skirt, with black thongs underneath *shakes my head* No, I'm not a pervert at staring at people's butt (I'll leave the pervertness to my raccoon). But I honestly think that you should always dress appropriately in offices, and not "show" and try to show. Maybe she wants the guys to look at her butt kuaaa...

Another incident was in genting recently. My bf & I decided to have *Bak-Kut-Teh for dinner, so we sat down and I waited for my bf to make the orders. While waiting, I have a tendency to be *kei-po-chi and just watch the world & it's people go by. While doing so, I caught sight of an aunty sitting diagonally opposite me, with her back facing me. From her dressing, I'll say she's probably about 40, so her dressing still can pass. What really caught my eye was her black thong. How did I know she was wearing a black thong under her jeans? Easy... as she was sitting down eating her Bak-Kut-Teh, her jeans were stretched and exposed her black thong in full view. Ok, I exaggerated a little. You could see the top part of the thong and a bit of her butt cheek. You know how some low-cut jeans are... if you stretch a little too much while sitting, a bit of your butt cheek could get exposed. I wonder how the old uncle that sat behind her thought about the little pee-ka-boo show  When my bf returned to the table after settling our order, I showed him what I saw and he was like "Eek" and starting laughing.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I saw this really kinky & sexy men's underwear from SkinX. It's SOOOOOO kinky! There's only an elastic band for the waist and this pouch-like elastic cloth attached to it to hold the "precious nuts" Man! What a great design!

*Bak-Kut-Teh - a claypot filled with pork meat, pork fat, pig's internal organs & mushrooms in hot steamy herbal soup. Serve with a bowl of rice and some side orders of yau-char-kuay. Very very fattening, can cause high cholesterol is consumed too often and is sinfully delicious

Teach Your Pet Raccoon New Tricks!
02.16.04 (10:38 pm)   [edit]
In my previous post, I mentioned that I have a pet raccoon. His name is Arakun and he's a sweet little creature. He can play rough at times, and is constantly threatening to harrass my neighbours should he be left alone, but I try to put up with his incredibly obnoxious behaviour. Usually a good spank will do the trick *piak piak* Arakun has recently tried his hands/paws on poetry. Not bad for a rabies-carrying furball eh? I have decided to teach Arakun a few new tricks:

1) Bite at anyone I don't like and give them rabies
2) Terrorise a certain telco company by showing them your fangs & drool
3) Learn to cook your own dinner (so you don't have to eat mine)
4) To greet me as "Great & Mighty Mistress" and nothing else. Anyone else that doesn't greet me as GMM, Arakun will give them rabies

Of course I won't forget to teach him the basic tricks like roll, over, play dead, sit, stay etc etc. But I believe Arakun is a smart animal (if he's good, he get to play with a light saber) and he should have no problems learning all the new tricks. Should he fail, I'll feed him to a pack of wild dogs.

GMM: Arakun! Heel! *cracks the whip* *piak piak*
Arakun: Yes, oh great mistress. Arakun listens to great mistress.
GMM: Good boy *pat pat* Now go play with yourself.

Genting Trip
02.16.04 (8:20 pm)   [edit]
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] I spent a night @ Genting on Sunday. It was my bf's idea of a post-Valentine celebration *haha*. We stayed at First world Hotel, where the rooms are rather small & tight. The washroom also so small, can really make a person feel claustrophobis  We reached genting about 1pm++ and had our lunch in Genting Hotel before proceeding to walk down to First World to checkin. The weather was good, cold wind in our faces. If only KL had such weather... It'll be good for my skin

Genting had a good crowd. Luckily we chose a Sunday to spend the night, hence we only paid the off-peak period rate. Never the less, we saw lotsa families bringing huge bags together with food stuff like chips, cup noodles etc etc. We could tell they were from those tours as we saw tour guides guiding them. Checking in was a long wait. We had to take a number and queue. The system First World Hotel had employed was that of the banks: Take a number and wait for your number to be called. Since there were about 200 odd numbers ahead of us, we decided to walk about and check out what's interesting to see/do. By the time we could checkin, it was close to 5pm. And during the checkin, we were told that chances are, our room hasn't been cleaned yet. WHAT? Not cleaned yet? True enough, it was still a mess. We had to ask housekeeping to clean the room up before we could go in and rest.

After taking a refreshing shower, we headed out to the main building once again to catch the evening mist. Brrrrr~~~~ so nice & cold. After that, we walked back down to First World Hotel and hunt for dinner. We decided to have Bak-Kut-Teh for dinner cos the aroma of the bak-kut-teh soup was driving us crazy! At RM 30 for 2, it was an expensive bak-kut-teh meal, but watudoo... Genting prices are such. Hot steaming bak-kut-teh tasted soooOOOoooo good. Now if only they also had hot steamboat & tomyam... We also tapau-ed some sushi for supper.

After a full tummy, we walked up to the Casino de Genting located on the top floor of First World. it was pretty empty, with only a few tables & machines occupied. I guess most people still prefer to go to the main casino uphill. Never the less, that didn't deter some aunties & uncles from trying their luck on the tables & machines. You could see from their expressions if they were winning or losing *LOL*. I saw this uncle winning quite a lot from the roulette table. 10 minutes later, he lost everything he won earlier. My bf tried his hands on The Derby table, horse racing. Of course lost lar. But he only bet small... hehehe.

Checkout the next day was a breeze (unlike checking in). We got our RM100 deposit back and had dim-sum for breakfast. We walked up to the main building again and felt the cold wind in our faces again. The weather was a little cloudy, a bit of sun and you could see the mist blowing in. The weekend crowd had mostly left, so there was plenty of parking to go around. By the time we reached the Awana Skyway, it was 1.30pm and the sky was getting cloudy. And by the time we reached home, it had begun to pour.

It was a short getaway for the weekend. Just feeling the cool breeze in our faces. Get away from the KL/PJ crowd & traffic jams. Ahh~~~~

Feb 14th Dinner - Maggi Mee
02.16.04 (7:37 pm)   [edit]
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] Ahh~~~ the dreaded V's Day has come and gone. Lotsa busted wallets and happy florists & restaurant operators gleaming now eh? So what did you guys do for Valentine's Day? Let me tell you mine...

After work (I work Saturdays, 1/2 day), I went to 1Utama to collect my movie tickets from a friend and had lunch @ Burger King. Oh man... BK Swiss Mushroom is the ultimate in burgers~~~ *sluurrrppp* of course, let's not forget our very own Ramly Burger lah, but the BK mushroom sauce & cheese was sooooooOOOOOooooo delicious~~~ Just thinking about it makes my mouth drool :P OKok, back to my V Day story.

My movie was due at 6.15pm, the only show for Last Samurai. So after lunch, I had a few hours left to kill. So my bf & I just jalan-jalan around 1Utama's new wing lor. Flowers & balloons were everywhere. Jusco was giving out free roses for purchases over RM100. Another gimmick - spend so much to get one lousy stalk of rose which you can normally get for RM 4-5 on normal days. Aiii... alas I saw quite a lot of people (women) carrying those roses.

Another thing I HAVE to mention is this: I noticed that quite a lot of women (young ones especially, high school/college students that age range) were dressed like they were going for a grand dinner. It's not like they're wearing gowns or such... but their attire was more suited for functions. And the makeup... oh my... so powdered. I like to call them "muka sepuluh inchi" - ten inch thick skin. I saw quite a few of them SYT (term taken from Dr.Liew) proudly walking with a bouquet of flowers in their sweet young hands. I dunno, maybe they felt SO proud that their boyfriends presented them with a huge bouquet of roses and they just HAD to show the world. "Oh, look at me! Look at my flowers! Be jealous... be very very jealous!"

Anyway, the movie was pretty good. Tom Cruise is still so good looking. Some idiots in the cinema still hasn't learnt to shut their phones and stop yakking while watching a movie (hate such bastards). You know what cinemas should do? They should install some kind of special 'seats'. When an idiot's phone start to ring, the seat can merely eject the fat-ass sitting on it and shoot him right through the cinema ceiling. But then again, it'll only cause a hole in the ceiling. Scrap the idea...

The movie ended at about 9pm. Luckily, we had a bowl of assam laksa before the movie, so the hunger pangs weren't so strong. Since it was already 9pm, we thought we might as well have dinner before heading home. After all, it's 9pm and the dinner crowd should be over by now. How utterly wrong we were... Every single restaurant was crowded like hell! You name it... Fast food outlets, restaurants, everything! WTF!?! It's 9pm, you guys should've eaten by now. My bf & I looked at each other and decided we should just head home and cook Maggi mee each. Yup, we had Maggi Mee for dinner  Add some cabbage, some sausages and an egg, fuuyyyoohhh *slurp slurp* Now that was a satisfying dinner. No queues, no hassle. I can customise my food anyway I want. And it doesn't cost a bomb. My bf apologised for not getting my flowers. I just said "Hey, it's no big deal ler. Flowers so expensive lah, don't waste money like that. Anyway, we're already going to Genting tomorrow." :) Honestly, I never really liked roses. They wilt easily, and they are so bloody common - BORING.

So that's my Valentine day. How was yours?

R.I.P Big Momma
02.16.04 (7:04 pm)   [edit]
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] One of my hamster, Big Momma, left us on Saturday afternoon. I wasn't at home at the time (was in 1Utama catching a movie). After my movie, I went back home and gave her a proper burial & bid her farewell for the last time. She's about 3 years old, pretty old for a hamster (the average age for hamus are about 2 yrs, but so far all my previous hamus have lived to the ripe old age of 3 or more). May she rest in peace...

I Have A Pet Raccoon
02.13.04 (2:09 am)   [edit]
I have a pet raccoon
By the name of Arakun
With fur so reddish brown
And a bushy tail to boot

Raccoons are omnivorous creatures
Eating everything in sight
Which explain why the past few days
My dinner has been out of sight

My Arakun is very playful
A loving raccoon he is
But when he gets too "bull"
He wanks a shitload full

He threatens to terrorise my neighbours
Should I desert him on his own
Left to fend his sudden urges
He strikes at any bugger that crosses

I have a pet raccoon
By the name of Arakun
The Doc said he's a wild scoot
But I don't give a hoot.

Okok... so I suck at poetry. I'm too damn bored here. Am waiting for my ride back home so I just thought of passing the time doing stupid stuff... Think I'll go play a game now...

Happy Valentine's Day
02.12.04 (10:54 pm)   [edit]

I know it sounds corny, but heck... Happy Valentine's Day to everyone out there. May you have a great Valentine with your sweetheart, cherish the love & bond you have with one another, and have a great day. I'll be watching Last Samurai tomorrow. Tell me what the rest of you will be doing on this hyper-commercialised day, and we'll see who's plan comes out tops!

P/S: I just realised today is Friday the 13th  Haha.

Calvin & Hobbes Special
02.11.04 (7:41 pm)   [edit]

Calvin & Hobbes: They are one of my favourite comic book characters. Unfortunately, the man behind these 2 fascinating characters -- Bill Watterson, has retired. It's sad to see that there will be no more new comical series about the obnoxious 6-year old and his best friend. Never the less, I have a collection of Calvin & Hobbes series in my cupboard which will always bring a smile to my face everytime I read it. I think I have a total of 7 or 8 books :D

Why do I like Calvin & Hobbes? Well, for those of you who've never read C&H before, it's about Calvin, a 6-year old boy and his best friend, Hobbes (which is actually his toy tiger come to life thanks to Calvin's incredible imagination). There are also other characters in C&H, such as his parents (the stress these guys go through! Phew!), Susie the sweet girl from next door (Calvin's target for snowballs), Calvin's teacher, Ms Wormwood (after you see her going through her classes with pupils like Calvin, you wouldn't want to teach again), Rosalyn, Calvin's baby-sitter (the only person Calvin actually fears) and lastly, the character Moe (a big bully in school).

What makes this book special is how Calvin sees the world through his eyes. Mind you, he may be 6, but hell, his vocabulary is a whole lot better than any adult I know! Also, I like the uncanny way he gets himself into trouble. He's an obnoxious, self-centred, selfish, rude, conceited boy who sees himself as a true genius and above all else. His best friend Hobbes is a fuzzy looking tiger, with a soft heart at times and the kind of friend anyone would love to have: sweet, sarcastic, enthusiastic and fun. Hobbes is actually just a soft toy to normal adult eyes, but to Calvin, Hobbes is real and is someone he can always count on and rely upon.

I think what Bill Watterson is trying to tell the readers is this: There are always 2 ways of looking at things, your way and other people's way. Calvin sees Hobbes as something real. Other people see Hobbes as a toy. So what is real and what is not? Calvin sees his actions are always right and others as always wrong. We see it the other way round. So who's right and who's wrong? You get the picture?

The Dreaded Valentine's Day...
02.10.04 (8:57 pm)   [edit]
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] It is here once again folks. The dreaded V word that tends to send shivers down any (attached) macho guy's spine. Girls (in general) tend to get all mushy and sensitive over this matter. What to get her this year? Where to go for dinner lar? Would she like this ah? How? How?

The 1st year my bf & I celebrated V's Day, we went for dinner at a Japanese restaurant in 1Utama. It was nothing special, we just thought of going for a nice dinner and spend some quality time together. Boy, it was like the WHOLE 1Utama had nothing but couples walking around  Us being one of them... hehe. We saw flowers & balloons everywhere. Some guys were buying flowers on the spot for their ladies, balloons, choclates. I overheard a lady telling her hubby not to waste money like that, but the hubby just said it's a once a year thing, so no big deal. So does that mean the hubby only buys flowers for the wife on V's Day :?:

Unfortunately, dinner was a disappointment. The food quality was poor, probably due to the sudden surge in people eating in the same place. Lesson learnt: Never eat out during V's Day. Bad food quality, over-crowded & price. Now when V's Day comes along, we don't make plans :) Most likely just spend time at home with the tele. Or when all the hype has died down, then we go & have a nice meal. After all, I think that we should be celebrating V's Day everyday. That we should be thankful that we're alive each day to celebrate with all our loved ones. Flowers & gifts are only material values. It's the thought that really counts in the end :)

[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] Fedup liao. Doing crappy work, crappy jobs, jobs that are WAAAAAYYYY out of my scope, jobs that are SUPPOSED to be done by clients, but NOOOOOOO... they throw it to us, and the AE readily accepts. See lah, how...? How...? How...? I'm been "assigned" to handle the importing & updating of files into the client's server, which should be done by the client's own set of administrators in the 1st place. Why the hell you throw YOUR job to other people? Assholes!

I need to get out of this place. This place is killing my character, destroying my sanity (or what's left of it), plundering my soul *sob sob* I don't want to be like some of the staffs here... work 7,8,9 even 10 years doing the same job day after day after day... Problem is... I got no reply from other companies... sigh

The Subject Of Beauty: Plastic Or Not
02.09.04 (10:48 pm)   [edit]
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] I read this article from Star Online today. A lot has been said about plastic surgery and how so many young women (older women as well) are willing to risk everything they have to change their existing looks to look even more "beautiful". It's obviously the term "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" is dying. These people are willing to go under the knife just to have bigger eyes, fully lips, bigger breast, firmer buttocks, slimmer thighs etc etc etc... They are fully aware f the risks involved (i.e: infection, botched surgery, disfigurement), but that has not deterred them.

Look, I think God has been quite fair to everyone. Some are born with looks that could kill, some are just another face on the streets. That's where the brain & character comes in. Yes, people will pay sttention to you if you have the looks, but if your personality sucks, good looks won't help cover bad attitude. And in case you still don't realise this... people grow old. So does that mean more plastic surgery? You can't escape the effects of old age. I guess this means that those that went under the knife will choose to go under again & again & again, cos I'm sure as they get older, signs of aging will appear, and they'll try desperately to cover up all the signs of aging. No wonder plastic surgeons are sprouting up like wild grasses everywhere! Look at the big bucks involved!

Ladies, why lar you wanna put yourself through such process? Tsk tsk...

Proton Gen-2

I dropped by the Proton showroom @ Mutiara Damansara just to check out to new Gen-2 from Proton. Basically just want to be "pat-poh" a.k.a nosy lady and see the car lah. Lotsa people there. There were 3 Gen-2 on display. I've always been skeptical about Proton (I can hear some of you saying "Who isn't?"). So what's my verdict of the new Gen-2?

1) The overall exterior design of the car is something quite different from what Proton has previously come up with. The rear of Gen-2 is kinda like a Spectra, big & bulky. I thought the front part of the car looked a little odd (to me). From the side, the car looks quite large.
2) The interior looks quite classy & sporty, with the new concept Proton has for the Gen-2. The front passanger & driver seats looks like something you usually see in race car.
3) I couldn't sit on the driver's side cos there was a long queue of people wanting to try the driver side. So I sat on the front passanger side. Quite spacious, enough leg space for me at least. I couldn't see any indication of airbag on the passanger side, although in the leaflet, it's stated there's airbags.
4) When you close the doors, the sound was quite solid. Gen-2 has adopted the door design like most european cars have: the rubber is on the inside, not on the door itself. But I was knocking on the inner side of the door (where the door handle is) -- sounded hollow :?: And the door handle, I found it quite flimsy. I was afraid of pulling it harder for fear it will just drop of!
5) I couldn't see the engine, too many people crowding around it. All I could see was the Campro word on it. Anyway, I don't know much about car engines

At RM52,888 (w/o insurance) for 1.6 litre manual (RM 55+++ for auto 1.6), Gen-2 is quite a good deal. But we'll just have to wait & see lar, see how the performance of the car really is before deciding. I found some of the Proton sales people quite "lan-si" as usual. Let's see how the new Gen-2 fares hor?

*The above review is entirely my own opinion. You be your own judge*

Mahjong!!!
02.08.04 (7:24 pm)   [edit]
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] I don't know how to play mahjong for starters. Never the less, I think it's an interesting game to learn. You know how it is when you watch chinese serials on TV, there's bound to be some parts of the show involving mahjong. I could never understand the game. It's always looks so "chee-gik" or thrilling to see the players shout "PUNG" or "CHI-MUO" or terms like "DAI-SEI-HEI" and "SAP-SAM-YEW". I could never understand what the players were saying or what they meant  All I knew was, the game was fun! Amidst the fact that you'll either win or lose, but that's gambling to you ba-beh!

So last Saturday, a married couple (close friends) invited my bf & I over to their house for a game of mahjong 3-kaki. We brought along another friend, Andy. So there my friend was, let's call her Jen. She had already set up the table for playing. Since her hubby was at work still, my bf, Andy, and Jen started playing. I was an observer to the game  I sat next to my bf trying to pick up the game. Of course along the way, my bf & Jen also explained to me the basics of the game. Jen also asked my bf why he never taught me the game, so that I can play with them. Never mind, I will learn slowly (I've always been a little slow in learning strategic games).

They started playing at 3.30pm. By 5pm, my bf was on a winning streak :P They didn't gamble very high stakes, just 1 point for 10 sen, not serious gambling. By then, Jen was calling her hubby to faster come back cos she was losing! So the hubby came back and took over Jen's place. It's quite fun watching them play. All the "PUNG", "KONG", "CHI-MUO" terms all coming out, just like watching in Hongkie series  They played until 1am++, by then I was sleeping on the sofa *zzzz.... zzzz....* My bf was the big winner of the day . The host lost about RM30++, plus they bought dinner and Jen baked a cake and made jelly for us to makan. Mahjong is kinda cool.

Poor Things
02.05.04 (10:47 pm)   [edit]
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] National Service will commence on Feb 16 for the 1st batch of selected youngsters. How I pity them. Which makes me SO glad to have passed my high school years way before all this nonsense came about  Don't get me wrong, National Service can be a good thing. But I think the term National Service has been potrayed in the wrong light. The purpose of NS is to build reserve forces right, should a country come under attack. Now the NS training we will be having has no intention of making troopers out of the youngsters. No no, no weapons, no knives, no guns. The "parties" claim that NS is to help instill unity amongst the young, the gotong-royong We Are All Malaysians sort of morale. Which is a good plan, I agree. But the sudden rush to implement NS has caused lotsa disgrunt among the society. And from what I heard, the camps for NS are so poorly planned, NS is going to make Outward Bound look like a luxury getaway

The NS camps are going to be far from town, some parts of the ourskirts (makes running away so much more difficult eh?). The camps will be fenced up (security mar, after orang minyak come and molest people then susah lor). Participants will be sharing dormitories (male & female dorms are on different grounds, but you share the same dapur for makan), washing your own clothes (like olden days use the stick to whack the cloth). The camps will be in the middle of some hutan belukar, so expect some strange sounds once a while. Last I heard, there's no proper water & electricity connection just yet (aduhai). It's not going to be a pretty site, it's really really roughing it out in the woods ba-beh! Handphones, pocket knives, cigarettes, cameras are all prohibited. You'll be completely cut out from the outside world. Tsk tsk...

Ho-Hum... Yea, it's Friday!!!
02.05.04 (6:24 pm)   [edit]
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] Am feeling kinda sleepy right now. Maybe cos it's Friday, so the mind is generating laziness  Anyway, yesterday was Chap Goh Meh & I had dinner with my family and a bunch of family friends @ Royal Selangor Club, KL. We occupied 4 tables in total. The dinner was inclusive of a lion dance performance, lucky draw and a live band called "The Strollers". They play mostly oldies & good ol' rock & roll.

As we were stepping into the ballroom (where the dinner was held), we were greeted by "Choi Sun Yeh" - God of Prosperity. It turns out that this Choi Sun Yeh was invited all the way from Hong Kong, and he's the winner in a Choi Sun Yeh competition! Not bad, Choi Sun Yeh winner :D He's a really tall & big guy, taller than most of the men present at the dinner. He went around the tables greeting everybody a Happy New Year & presented each one with a small mandarin orange. My dad was wondering if this guy was wearing heels cos Choi Sun Yeh was so tall! My sis & I lifted up his long attire a bit just to peek his shoes, and behold, no heels!!! Later, the Choi Sun Yeh went up to change and we saw his REAL face. He really is quite a large guy, not fat, but large & tall.

There was another performance by another group who called themselves "Rina & The MP3". Now this Rina gal had a very beautiful voice and she really pumped up the ambience of the entire dinner. She was singing songs like Icky Breaky Heart, YMCA, even mandarin songs. Some of the folks even went up to the dance floor and dance & sang along with her.

I guess the best part was the lucky draw session. There were table draws & individual draws. Lucky draws are always fun. Most of the time, it can be quite kek-sim cos they always call other numbers other than yours!!!

ANCCR: And the number is... 970!

BF: Aiyooo!!! Mine is 971!!!! How can like dat???

Sis: Aiyooo!!! Mine is 969 summore!!! Why like dat???

BF & Sis: Wahlauweh!!! *punch punch the chest* *Dush Dush Dush* Kek-sim lah!!!

The lion dance performance was only so-so. It was the northern lion, not the southern lion we usually see performing. The northern lion is the one with long orange & yellow fur, its head looks as though it has a dozen snails sticking on it. And it chases a raattan ball stuck with ribbons. I think the northern lion looks more like a Pekinese dog  I prefer the southern lion more. My sis is terrified of lion dances, despite being in her 20s. Just hearing the drums beating can send a cold shiver down her spine.

It was a nice dinner. Some aunties were giving us our angpows and each time they give us, they'll say "Make this the last year ok? Every year give angpow ah, very poor wan you know." Haha  During the dinner, it was these bunch of aunties & uncles that were relatively "high" due to the wine & beer. Each table has coupons which can be used to exchange for wine (red/white) & beer. I kept seeing the wine & beer streaming endlessly to the tables.

*yawwwnnn...* Eyes feeling tired ler. I better go do something before I fall asleep on my table. Oh, we also received a lottery ticket each, opening date this Sunday. Since our table didn't get anything from the lucky draw, aim for the 3 million lah! AHAHAHAHAHA

Happy Chap Goh Meh
02.04.04 (9:59 pm)   [edit]
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] Today is Chap Goh Meh a.k.a the 15th day of Chinese New Year. Yes, every chinese new year, the chinese all around the world will celebrate this festive season for 15 whole days. Today also means it's the last day for any singles to collect their angpows! So go for it! It's your last chance to haul the remaining angpows you haven't collected from any relatives/married couple!!! Muahahahaha

Chap Goh Meh is also known as the chinese Valentine's day. The usual tradition would be for single females to toss mandarin oranges into a river/lake, in hopes of getting a partner. I don't know what the single males would throw, but I was told they'll be throwing bananas  It may sound a little silly for foreigners, but it's a tradition that has been handed from generations to generations. There will be a a lot of dinners around town as well. Families & friends will have dinners together in restaurants, along with lion dances & fireworks display.

Happy Chap Goh Meh to all chinese readers out there!

Shame On You
02.04.04 (12:25 am)   [edit]
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] Some of the marketing fellas in my co are downright irritating. Yes, they're the sales team. They go out, meet clients, do presentations and possibly bring the business in. What's irritating about them sometimes... is their lack of initiative to do their own presentations. They will throw their presentations to my department, and ask us to do it for them. Hello? Powerpoint pun tak tau guna kah? Call youself marketing people  Simple Powerpoint & Words document pun tak tau kah? Shame on you! And they have to nerve to admit they don't know how to use, but don't bother to take the initiatie to learn. Hello? As if we know how to use like pros lah. We also had to learn, learn on our own. Now is the era of K-economy, Knowledge Economy. Take some initiative to leanr some basic Words & Powerpoint or even Excel lah. So bloody dependant. And learn how to operate the computer properly too, forever getting viruses into the system. Bodoh :!:

Zits On My Face
02.03.04 (12:02 am)   [edit]
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] You heard me. I got zits on my face. All thanks to consuming the yee-sang with peanuts. I like yee-sang, it's something I eat every chnese new year. Problem is... yee-sang comes with whole lotta ground up peanuts!!! That's probably the key ingredient in any plate of yee-sang -- PEANUTS. The problem I have with peanuts is... PEANUTS GIVE ME ZITS  Yup, peanuts give me zits. The moment I eat peanuts, *pop* one or two zits will surface tomorrow  Waaa.... *sob* That's why I've always avoided peanuts. But how to avoid eating peanuts in yee-sang. Bo pian lor, have to makan oso mar. So come chinese new year, my face will have some extra zits to add to the festive season. I went for my monthly facial treatment yesterday, and told my facial lady the annual predicament I have to go through -- PEANUTS = ZITS.

I still have one more yee-sang to "lou" this year... ooohhh... another zit to come....

*Note to Michael Ooi -- NO YOU CANNOT SQUEEZE MY ZITS!

My Booby's On TV!!!

Britney french-kissed Madonna. Pink apparently did the same to Madonna. Now Brtiney's ex-flame & Janet pulls a stunt together during Super Bowl: Show Me Your Booby. I wanna ask them, how on earth do you get 'wardrobe malfunction' lah? The next thing you'll know, superstars will be stripping each other to their knickers and saying "Wardrobe malfunction". :!:

Manipulative Big Guns
02.02.04 (6:22 pm)   [edit]
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] In my previous post, I did mention that I have to report to work on Feb 5, which coincidently, happens to be a public holiday for Selangor (Thaipusam & Chap Goh Mei together). Well, this morning I was speaking to the PA and she informed me that the big guns cannot just issue a memo out forcing everyone to come to work on a gazetted public holiday. It's a public holiday, and we as staff/employee have every right not to come to work despite you issuing a last minute memo. Refer here for some labour guidelines.

So... now I'm contemplating if I should come to work on Thursday... what say you?
