Monday 29 Dec, 2003 12.11pm
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] Yessiree... another 2 days till 2004 steps upon us (literally speaking lah). So fast man, 2003 is just another part of 'history', a has-been. It's that time of the year where we look back at what we've accomplished so far throughout 2003, and start making new goals for 2004. So what have I accomplished so far eh
I"m not one to make resolutions, namely cos I'll most likely break all of them before January ends  Yea yea, I'm one of those that DON'T make resolutions nor keep them. Watudooooo..... *grin* But I do have some wishes for 2004:
Personal Wishes: 1) better increment (BETTER!!!) 2) find a better job (kalau boleh-lah...) 3) good health for me & family 4) improve my current skills 5) be a better person (be happier, be more understanding, more patient... etc)
Other Wishes: 1) world peace 2) education for all 3) food for all 4) less stupidity in the world 5) less violence in the world

Freedom Tower... and the point is...?
12.21.03 (8:24 pm) [edit]
Monday 22 Dec, 2003 12.05pm
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] It has been said that the new tower to replace the former already crumbled and carted away WTC will be replaced by an even taller (none the less more spectacular) Freedom Tower (reminds me of the term "freedom fries"). More stories on that here http://slate.msn.com/id/20929...
No doubt America wants another symbolic structure to rebuild their once perished strength and to regain respect and bla bla bla... to prove that the American spirit will never say die. But honestly, there are better ways to spend those billions. 1st of all, the world doesn't need another towering structure. 2nd, to build another tower for the sake of putting something on that spot is not really necessary, is it? 3rd, they claim Freedom Towers will represent the American spirit and whatever they previously mentioned. Does it really represent that, or is it just a mere excuse to put something there, and claim that's why we're building it.
There are so many better ways to spend the billions which will eventually be poured into that project. You could channel the funds to search for cures for terminal illnesses like AIDS & cancer. You could feed the hungry and keep the poor warm. You could channel the money to proper foundations so that every child in this world can read & write. You can help save the wild animals from extinction by building wildlife parks and educating people to love & respect animals.
So many ways to spend the billions, but you guys would rather spend it on concrete, lifeless things...

Oh so lazy now...
12.21.03 (6:18 pm) [edit]
Monday 22nd Dec, 2033 10.00am
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] Boy, am I feeling absolutely lazy now. yes, Christmas is very near, plus holidays and all... Which explains the laziness lah  I caught ROTK last Saturday. Amazing movie, although some parts were a bit jumpy, but never the less, the entire trilogy was excellent. Can't wait for the next DVD to come out next fall. It ought to be a blast (at least fill the loopholes in some parts of the movie).
I can actually predict what I'm going to do during Xmas... paint the old house. Yup, my old place. It needs a new coat of wall paint. Furthermore, we have a new tenant coming in next year, so it's best we get it done before they come in, makes the place look nice & brand new :)
Today all chinese around the world is celebrating Dong Zi - also known as Winter Solstice. It signifies the 1st day of spring, kinda like Thanksgiving, but in a chinese sort of way. Families will gather and have reunion dinners. And exactly one month after this, chinese everywhere will be celebrating Chinese New Year - Welcome to the year of the Moneky!!! Oohh Oohh Aahh Aahh...

Friday 19 Dec, 2003 10.40am [image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] Well, I'm back from my 2 days medical leave (MC). *koff koff* I still have a lingering cough, hopefully it'll go away soon. My head is still a little heavy from eating the antibiotics...
I've got an early Xmas dinner tonight. Plus tomorrow I'm going to watch ROTK. Better remember to bring an extra jacket/cardigan with me tomorrow. Don't wanna catch a cold, since I just recovered from one. Now I'm feeling a bit woozy... must be the medication...

6,000 years of Sex...
12.15.03 (7:50 pm) [edit]
Tuesday 16 Dec, 2003 11.40am
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] I read this interesting feature from MSN.com today. More than 6,000 years of human sexuality, all in 1 place, artistically displayed for your viewing pleasure. You name it... erotic toys, icons and other sex paraphernalia... *gasp* This guy, Lui Dalin spent years collection & studying about sex, and founded the Chinese Sexual Culture Museum. his mission: To reintroduce his country's ancient culture of sexuality to generations brought up in more prudish communist times. Not bad for 71 year old man  More details on the story here: http://msnbc.msn.com/Default....%7C%7C%7C%7C003
But the poor guy's having trouble with the authorities in China now. The top guns feel that his act of "introducing the sexual phenomena of yesteryears" too explicit. As they say, SEX is still a dirty word in China.
Another news I read was about Keiko, the killer whale (remember Free Willy?). yea, it died during the weekend  So sad, it's only 27 years of age (I don't know if that's old for whales). But from what I understand, Keiko was captured when he was only a pup, and raised in a huge aquarium. Subsequently he made a couple of whale movies and the whole world grew to love Keiko. What made me wonder was.... Why the hell did humans catch him in the 1st place? In fact, when they 1st released him, you jolly well know he can't survive in the wild anymore. He's been domesticated you idiots. Money, it all comes down to money. Money will spell the end of this world.
Boy, let's go get us a human baby. Raise him in a giant cage, and get him to act a couple of box office for us. We'll make millions!!! After that. we release him back into the wild and hope for the best for him

My Weekend + Advance ROTK Tickets
12.14.03 (6:06 pm) [edit]
Monday 15 Dec, 2003 10.00am
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] Well, I had a good weekend. Went to 1 Utama (window shopping mostly). Man, the new wing is so huge. Parkson had their opening on Saturday, quite a good crowd. Looks like you don't need to go down to Kl to hunt for branded good anymore, they're all coming to PeeJay. There's a wing in the new wing called 'Highstreet' - all the branded, ridiculously expensive goods, all housed under 1 roof. CK, DKNY, Polo, Armani, BCBG, Kenneth Cole, Guess?, Mambo... you name it, it's all here. Even Stila cosmetics is here now (inside Parkson). Nice to window shop *hehe* But Highstreet is way outta my league. I'll stick to something with more earth-bound prices
Oh, I also bought my advance tickets to the screening of ROTK for Dec 20th. Yupyup, you can go get your advance tickets now *quick quick*. Although I won't be the 1st few to catch it, but I've never been one that follows to crowd *I MUST BE THE 1ST TO WATCH!!!* I never like the rush. Dec 20th is a Saturday and I bought the afternoon show, so that's ok. Just so happened I was buying tickets to watch Infernal Affairs 3 (excellent movie), TGV displayed at their counter a notice board stating they're now selling advance tickets for ROTK. Oh hey, makes sense to buy the tickets now rite? I'm already queueing up 8) Buy-lah. "2 tickets to ROTK please..."
I'm still sleepy... *dreamy*...

12.11.03 (9:34 pm) [edit]
Friday 12 Dec, 2003 1.18pm
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] Having my lunch and surfing at the same time. That's normal-lah, multi-tasking wat  Yesterday a long time friend asked what's my job function. My reply was: design websites, cd-roms, multimedia presentations, R&D, content development, sometimes attend meetings, and technical support for stupid execs sitting their fat butts downstairs (how to use PowerPoint ahhh?). Hence he gave me the title "MTM - MultiTasking Manager". I'm so honoured *blush*
Anyway, I came across some interesting links today.
1) Garfield The Movie - The world's favourite feline is back! And in 3D too! Although the CGI version doesn't exactly look 100% like the cartoon strip, it's a good try. But Odie sure doesn't look like Odie. I guess there isn't quite a dog in the world that looks like Odie... hehehe...
http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/garfield /large.html" title="http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/garfield /large.html" target="_blank"http://www.apple.com/trailers...
2) Sg Jagong, Kedah - I don't know how many of you got the pictures of really nice waterfalls and blahhh, which comes with a map that tells you how to get to Sg Jagong, Kedah. It's all a hoax. The link below are the photos that were circulated around (claiming to be some spot in Kedah, Malaysia)
http://www.cuti.com.my/album/thumbnails.php?album=12" title="http://www.cuti.com.my/album/thumbnails.php?album=12" target="_blank"http://www.cuti.com.my/album/...
The link below is the actual spot where the photos were taken. The heavenly place does exist, but not in Malaysia as stated. it's located in Plitvice Lakes, Croatia. Many people were duped to believing is was actually a spot in Malaysia (me included )... Well, kena tipu lor.

3) Matrix ASCII - Got this from LcF. Very cool. http://abstract.cs.washington.edu/" title="http://abstract.cs.washington.edu/" target="_blank"http://abstract.cs.washington...~renacer/ascii-matrix.html.gz?D0=70
It's Friday..... YEEEAAAAAHHHHHOOOOOO!!!!

[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] Yup, the yuletide season is just upon us. Jungle bells jingle bells, jingle all the wal... I wonder which shopping mall is gonna start with something like largest Xmas tree in Malaysia. Or how about largest Xmas stocking? Or maybe largest Xmas cookie ever baked? The things we do to get the world to notice us... tsk tsk... Is it a wonder why the rest of the world still has no idea where Malaysia is... They know Singapore, they know Thailand, but where's Malaysia ahhh...???? HAHAHAHAHA!!!
Man 1: Hi, where are you from? Man 2: I'm from (country). How about you? Man 1: Oh, I'm from Malaysia. Man 2: Oh, you're from the country that's always doing stuff like largest this, biggest that, longest those rite? Man 1: *bengang*

Reality Shows... Oh, So Lame!
12.09.03 (7:17 pm) [edit]
Wednesday 10 Dec, 2003 11.20am
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image]I was reading the recaps for the latest reality TV, 'Average Joe (http://www.nbc.com/Average_Jo...). The story goes something like this: A beautiful sexy gal (former NFL cheerleader, former Ms Mossouri, took part in beauty pagents b4, typical good-looking babe-lah) will have to choose 'The One' among 16 average looking men (not good-looking men, but average American men. No perfect bods, no good looks that can kill etc). Of course initially, the gal (let's call her SexPot) doesn't know that the men are actually average looking human beings (she thinks they're all charming, handsome to-die-for people). So SexPot was initially surprised to come face-to-face with 'Average Joes' (hence the title of the TV name). Never the less, the game goes on and one by one the guys get eliminated.
Now the funny thing, during Week 3 of the show, 3 guys get eliminated, but another 3 guys join the game. And these 3 new guys are on the good-looking side. Now why would the producers suddenly include good-looking men, when the title of the series is in fact 'Average Joe'? What does this all mean? A challenge to the average looking men, or an insult? Are the producers trying to imply that with good-looking men in the game, the Average Joes have no chance of snagging SexPot? What the f***?
In the following episode, the producers actaully arranged for a basketball tournament between the Average Joes and Better Looking Joes: 3-on-3. The new guys peeled off their shirts to show their great-looking abs, which practically fumed the old guys (what is this, some commercial for steroids??). But luck was on the Average Joes side and they eventually won the game (which goes to show nice bods don't necessarily mean big winners).
So the story goes on and again, one-by-one, the guys get eliminated until it's down to 2 men (one Average Joe, the other Better Looking Joe). SexPot had to make up her mind which guy to pick. She had to visit each of the guy's hometown and get to know them even better and at the same time, decide who will ultimately be 'The One'. Now the twist is: Better Looking Joe is a student who still lives at home at the age of 26, whose ambition is to be a weatherman: Jason Storm is the name. reporting the weather is my game. As for Average Joe, he turns out to be quite millionaire himself (he appeared in Forbes magazine before, with an article featuring him and his successful business operations). So who do you choose... a good-looking weatherman, or an average-looking millionaire?
I think the show is so lame. If you've heard of the previous 'Joe Millionaire' plot (pick a hot guy from the streets, brand him as an heir to some multi-millions, and tell the chicks that he wants to share his wealth with one lucky lady. Heck, ALL the chicks in the show fell for that trick), I personally think all these so-called reality TV are so f***ing lame & stupid and a complete insult to humans being humans. Here we are hearing people telling us that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and producers are coming up with lame shows like this one. How shallow can you get? What does it show of our society? I think this type of shows are actually insulting the contestants indirectly for their shallowness. It's like making a fool of yourself in front of live TV for everyone to see and laugh their ass of at you... (oh, btw, average-looking millionaire may not have the looks, but his personality was quite nice. Pretty Boy was nothing but pretty)
Anyway, below is a list of reality TV which I feel degrades human feelings, emotions and everything intellectual. There could be more... (with the exception of Survivor & Amzing Race)
1) Average Joe 2) Joe Millionaire - Gals are from US only 3) Joe Millionaire 2 - Gals from Europe 4) Bachelor 5) Bachelorette
Oh, by the way, SexPot picked Pretty Boy over Average Millionaire. But I bet you would've figured that out by now :? You can view the video of the 'good-looking couple' via MSN.com (MSN entertainment column). It's so obvious a babe like her is out for good looks, not personality...

I Was A Doink Today
12.08.03 (10:48 pm) [edit]
Tuesday 9 Dec, 2003 2.40pm
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image]Boy, was I careless today. I was getting ready for lunch (hungry as ever). I took my wallet out from my bag, and took my tissue pack and stuffed the tissue it into my jeans pocket lah. I didn't realised I left my wallet on my table - in full view for everyone to see. I didn't realised I had left my wallet on the table. I casually walked downhill to the nearby food stalls, ordered my food and found a seat. As I was about to sit down, I reached my back pocket and realised my wallet wasn't with me. I practically jumped up and said "SHIT!!!". Then I realised I must've left the wallet on the table. I quickly ran off, cancelled my food order and made a quick dash across the street. I tried calling my colleagues's mobile(when I left for lunch, she was still upstairs), but no one was answering. I was keeping my fingers crossed that my wallet was untouched (this place is notorious of valuables "mysteriously" going missing). I dashed upstairs into my dept, and made a heavy sigh... my wallet was right there on my table... untouched... *phew* I was such a doink
Gotta remind myself to be more careful. Lesson learnt.

Monday 8 Dec, 2003 3.52pm
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] I missed Matrix Revolution. Yes yes, how can I possibly miss one of the biggest movies of the year... easy... I didn't go to the movies lor  Sigh... will probably catch it on DVD-lah. But I'm definitely gonna catch ROTK in the cinema!
My weekend was oklah. Had some pretty severe bites on my body, but luckily the spots are going away. It's the year-end sale (yippee!!!), bargains galore. Yesterday, I got myself a set of new bed sheets (comes with 1 pillow case & bolster case), all for less than RM 30. Cheap cheap. And when I reached home, my sister was at home and she brought me my belated birthday gift - a cute casual handbag. I like it :)
Another hour to go before I hit home...

Nice guys always finish last...
12.04.03 (10:59 pm) [edit]
Friday 5 Dec, 2004 2.39pm
Yes, I'm convinced nice people always finish last. No matter how nice you really are, you'll always wind up losing first. It's so pathetic. What's the point in being nice when all you get in return at the end of the day is a pile of dog shit? *sigh*...
Anyway, I wanted to blog about my crazy (read: psychotic) neighbour. She lives next door to my unit, single lady in her 30s (mid to late 30s most likely). A bank officer I was told. Everything was a bliss when we moved into the condo 5 years ago. After a while, her true nature started showing up. She would complain to the management that our TV was turned on to loud, that we parked our bikes on the corridors (on our side) and it's obstructing her walking path to the lift. She even complained that the smoke from the insence coils my mum burns in the morning (we're buddhists) is causing her goldfish to go dizzy! Weird you say? Weird is too tame a word to use on her...
For the past 5 years, she has a reputation with just about the whole block. Everyone knows her & her non-stop complaints. It's a wonder she even has friends. One time, I kept seeing this middle-aged man (who looks like a married man) waiting for her downstairs, and sometimes when I came home from work, I see the man & her hugging each other outside her door, whispering sweet nothings. There was once she practically disappeared for 2 whole months!!! At 1st we all thought she moved out (yippee!!!). Turns out she went on a long break, and got her friend to stay at her place during that period. We thought maybe she eloped *hehe*. Then, as quietly as she disappeared, she re-appeared, but without the man this time. Got dump huh? Poor thing... LOL
Sometimes when I bump into her, I greet her... but it's like I'm greeting thin air. No reply, no acknowledgement, nothing. Hence I stopped greeting her for good. Even my hamsters give me some reaction when I come home. My dad doesn't like her at all. He calls her 'guai', cantonese for ghost. My mum sometimes have this evil idea of pouring stinky, fishy prawn water into her car, onto the upholstery. Women...

*Rolling my eyes, anticipating the weekend...*
12.04.03 (12:38 am) [edit]
Thursday 4 Dec, 2003 4.28pm
Yes, every week I look forward to the weekend. I didn't get much sleep last night (&$%#$@...). My stupid bolster burst its seam and the filling spilled all over my bed in the middle of the night (without me realising), causing me to itch like a mad bitch the whole night! I had to get up in the middle of night to clean the mess up and beat the shit out of my pillows and blanket. Later when I get back home, I'm gonna toss that bolster into the trash and let it rot.
Gosh, Christmas is just around the corner. I can hear the Christmas carols now... hehehe. Even during Raya, some malls have already started to display Xmas decorations. I've always liked to see Xmas decos, makes me feel like a small kid. One of my neighbours opposite my block has a Xmas tree all litted up really nice. I can see the tree from my balcony and the bright lights never fails to put a smile on my face. Maybe next time, I'll get a small tree for my house. That way, I can decorate it when Xmas & Chinese New Year comes :P

Hello Miss... Would You Like A Credit Card? 3-Years Free!
12.01.03 (7:52 pm) [edit]
Tuesday 2 Dec, 2003 11.25am
[image]oliviasy_644921841 .gif[/image] Isn't it uncanny that each time you go the mall, there's bound to be a bunch of people in ties and dogtags coming up to you and asking this question: "Hello Sir/Miss... Would you like a credit card? 3-Years Free! No need to pay subsciption one. Summore got free gift. Very good yah?" I have to say, it gets kinda annoying when they approach me several times, and each time from different financial institutions.
Look, I don't need a credit card right now. I know how credit cards work. Interest on interest. Sure, they expand your spending power by a whole lot more, and the only teeny requirement is for you as the consumer to pay a small percentage of the interest incurred in your purchase. You don't have to settle the full amount if you can't afford to. Just settle mebbe 5%, and you can keep using the card Sounds fair rite? Well, I don't like the concept of it. Interest ON interest. But that's the way credit cards work
Honestly, if banks had me as customers, they'll go broke  I'm a lousy bank customer to them *LOL* I've received calls from banks asking me if I want to apply for a credit card. They've used lines like "It's the privilage you know...", "Very exclusive wan...", "You can buy more things with the card...", etc etc. All have failed. Sorry dudes, but I'm more of a cash person right now  I manage my expenses well, so no need for a card-lah.
I have several friends who're stuck with mounting credit card bills. Everytime I hear them complaining about bills, bills and more bills. But they don't seem to be doing anything to settle the problems. Well, banks are legitimate "loan sharks", and credit card users can't escape their jaws of terror.
Some people say you can't live without credit cards. Well, I'm proof that you can live without credit cards. But I don't expect the majority out there to agree with me... hehehe.
